With over 18 years of professional practice experience, Cynthia Downey is an accomplished, result-oriented psychologist with an extensive track record of assessing emotional, psychosocial and educationally related disorders in children of school-going age. She is an expert in designing and evaluating standardized measures in order to assess students from diverse backgrounds.
Prior to relocating to Dubai to join The Developing Child Center (TDCC) in 2018, Cynthia held a number of practitioner and administrator positions for school districts in California, USA. She served for two years each as school psychologist for the Redlands Unified School District in Redlands and as a Mental Health Therapist/Psychologist at the Jurupa Valley Unified School District in Jurupa Valley. Prior to this she spent 15 years as the school psychologist at the Rim of the World Unified School District in Lake Arrowhead, California which included 3 years as the Director of Special Services. Throughout her career, Cynthia has maintained ties to academia.
This included Adjunct Professor positions at the University of California, Riverside Extension where she lectured in Learning and Motivational Techniques in Education, Statistics and Research Methods, and the Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, California where she taught an Advanced Counseling Seminar, Assessment and Intervention for Cognitive and Learning Problems, Special Issues and Best Practices in School Psychological Services, Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Assessment, and Individual/Cultural Differences in Education.
Cynthia has a passion for learning and the application of new methods and instruments to her practice. She received a B.S. in Human Development at the University of California, Riverside in 1991 and an M.A. in Education in 1999. She attended the Azusa Pacific University, Azusa California receiving an M.A. in Education/School Psychology in 1999 and an PPS in School Psychology/Counseling in 2000.Back to Team
