An Individualized Education Plan, also known as an IEP, has defined short term and long term targets designed for each child to advance their development and tangibly monitor their progress to ensure they achieve success.

The IEP identifies the objectives and specific challenges required to help build each child’s individual skills and overcome their challenges.

IEP’s are the ideal way to ensure everyone working with the child (parents, educators, therapists and any other professionals) knows exactly the area of focus in order to target, streamline and consolidate the strategies and plan in place and secure success.

The short-term and long-term targets within an IEP should be SMART (Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic and Time-limited). They are Specific and Measurable to help track individual progress. They are also a balance of Achievable and Realistic goals within a specific Time period.

At TDCC, IEP’s are written and re-written every 4 months with an interim review mid-way and a final review at the end of the period where parents meet with their child’s support team to review progress made against the targets.
